I Would Roast You refers to a series of TikTok videos in which users the lip-sync to the remixed comeback audio "I would roast you but my mom says I'm not allowed to burn trash." In July 2019, the audio clip was widely used in videos featuring people waddling away from the camera with stuffed shorts.

Origin

On July 31st, 2017, YouTuber Bethany W uploaded the earliest recorded use of the "I Would Roast You" remix audio (shown below). The video gained over 2,400 views in two years.

Spread

In late 2017, Youtubers began adding jumpscares to the end of Musicl.ly videos. On September 1st, Flavor town uploaded a video which gained over 23,400 views in two years. On January 23rd, Spicey Memes uploaded another version of the "I would roast you" jumpscares (shown below, right).

On July 1st, 2019, TikTok users began implementing the same audio in videos where they walk away to reveal stuffed pants made to look like a large butt. On July 1st, TikTok user @joe.albanese uploaded an iteration which gained over 570,400 likes and 24,400 shares in a week (shown below, left). The next day, @samanthamagliacane uploaded the most popular variation which gained over 1.6 million likes in a week (shown below, center). Two days late, @krisina uploaded a video that combined The Backside Challenge and "I Would Roast You" in a video that garnered over 1.4 million likes in four days (shown below, right).
