About
Imagine Washing Dishes With This View refers to a catchphrase and series of exploitable photoshopped images that revolve around posting an edited picture of a sink with various scenes in the background outside the window. Typically, these appear as a reaction image with the caption “imagine washing dishes with this view,” including different settings and locations, both fictional and realistic, photoshopped into the window. The theme was primarily seen on Twitter but spread to other social media platforms throughout July 2020.
Origin
The first example to use the catchphrase surfaced online on May 30th, 2020, when the Facebook[1] page Happy Home – Interiors uploaded the original image of a kitchen sink with a window overlooking a sprawling landscape and the caption “Imagine washing the dishes with these views” (seen below). This is the original which was then photoshopped to include different scenes in the window.
The exact first time this catchphrase was used in a meme is unknown, but it can be seen being used in a parody version on July 17th, 2020, by Twitter[2] user Dylan_T52, who tweeted the original photo edited to include Jellyfish Fields from SpongeBob Squarepants (shown below).
Spread
The theme continued to spread in the following days, and on July 18th, Twitter[3] user caputocaputo posted a version depicting a swarm of gators sitting outside the window, receiving over 3,300 likes and 469 retweets and comments. On July 19th, Twitter[4] user pqttinsons tweeted another variant with a scene from the Twilight series (seen below), receiving over 188,000 likes and 33,300 retweets and comments.
On July 19th, Facebook[5] user Dylan Boss posted the image edited to include a scene from Twin Peaks to the Facebook page Twin Peaks LogPosting, where it was liked over 1,700 times. On July 20th, the Facebook[6] page Black Metal Sad Posting also shared a version (shown below), receiving over 550 likes and 100 shares.
On July 19th, Redditor[7] Gossben posted another variant with a scene from Attack On Titan to the /r/attackontitan subreddit, receiving over 3,000 upvotes and 42 comments.
