Kim Kardashian Has Purchased X refers to a series of spreading misinformation memes that humorously claim Kim Kardashian has bought something extravagant or strange using the phrasal template "Kim Kardashian has purchased X," with "X" being the thing she purchased (also typically shown as an image on the right side). The meme began on Twitter in mid-January 2023 following real reports that Kardashian bought Princess Diana's cross necklace. The meme is similar to formats like Jenan Ortega Reveals and Lizzo Has Taken X.
Origin
On January 18th, 2023, TMZ[1] reported that Kim Kardashian purchased a cross necklace once owned by Princess Diana at a Sotheby's auction for a reported $197,453. Later that day, Twitter[2] user @PopCrave shared a link to the article along with photos of Kardashian and Diana, writing, "Kim Kardashian has purchased Princess Diana’s iconic diamond cross necklace," garnering over 17,000 likes in five days (shown below). Minutes later, Twitter[3] user @aimar1829 commented, "🚨Kim Kardashian has purchased Nicki Minaj's house 🚨" and minutes after that, Twitter[4] user @AFrazzledScot quote-retweeted the post, also posting the same photo of Kardashian next to a photo of Liz Truss, writing, "Kim Kardashian has purchased Liz Truss’ iconic Jenga-style podium." This is the earliest known meme to reference the post.
Spread
The meme spread across Twitter over the following days, also gaining viral spread on other social media platforms. On January 19th, 2023, Twitter[5] user @skyferrori made a post about Kardashian buying a douche signed by Charli XCX, garnering over 25,000 likes in four days (shown below). On January 20th, Twitter[6] user @inherentvibes made a post about Kardashian buying Rasputin's preserved penis, garnering over 42,000 likes in three days. That day, Distractify[7] published an article about the meme.
Later that day, Instagram[8] page throwingfits posted a version of the meme about Kardashian buying a piece of clothing by streetwear designer Asspizza, garnering over 8,600 likes in three days (shown below).
