Leaning Tower of Dallas the name of a building that was failed to be fully demolished in Dallas, Texas in February 2020. The core of the Tower was left remaining and leaning which led to many people comparing it to the Tower of Pisa in Italy.

Origin

On February 16th, 2020, the former 11-story Affiliated Computer Services building was loaded with explosives but failed to fully demolish the building with the building's core left standing. Local ABC WFAA uploaded footage of the demolition (shown below). The video gained over 72,400 views in two weeks.

Spread

On February 25th, the Fort Worth Police Department uploaded a video to their Twitter account with the caption, "We Took Care of It. @LeaningTower #leaningtowerofdallas" (shown below). The video received over 38,300 views, 1,500 likes and 290 retweets in a week.

On February 25th, Instagram[1] user Samantha_sketch uploaded a Leaning Tower of Dallas Etch-A-Sketch drawing which garnered over 110 likes in a week. Over then next few days, Twitter account @LeaningTower[2] gained over 2,300 followers while the Instagram[3] account Remember_The_Tower gained 900 followers. Local News[4] and the New York Times[5] published articles on the tower and Yelp[6] has the Leaning Tower of Dallas listed under Landmarks & Historical Buildings. On February 27th, station 98.7 KLOV[7] published a blog post listing some of the best Leaning Tower of Dallas memes. On February 29th, in a statement to NBC[4], CEO of De La Vega Devlopment said “The core settled into the basement probably, approximately…I’d say 35 to 40 feet down into the basement, which is basically what is holding the tower. My best guess is it’ll probably be down sometime early next, but that’s just a guess.”
