My Crafting Recipe is a CapCut video template and trend that became popularized on TikTok in late 2023 for showing what items would be used to craft a person. The exploitable meme template, using the Minecraft crafting table format filled with various emojis that then create a person, spread outside of gaming circles as people used it to show things important to them or their identity.

Origin

On November 2nd, 2023, the CapCut format was created, with nine individual icons or pictures being able to be used to show what would go into creating someone as a person. That day, TikToker starqzii^[1] uploaded one of the first uses of the template to TikTok where she quickly earned over 180,000 views in one month by showing that the ocean, travel and music were important to them (shown below).

Spread

The template quickly began to spread on TikTok over the following days and weeks, with various background audios being used as part of the trend. On November 3rd, 2023, the most viral usage of the template was uploaded by TikToker douglinhasszz,^[2] who showed how cats, music, smoking, movies, coffee and drugs were part of his crafting recipe, earning over 1.2 million views in one month (shown below).

On November 11th, 2023, TikTok natively added a variation of the template as a filter. In this version, the items would be randomly generated and filled in the squares instead of being specifically picked out by the person ahead of time. The TikToker catinthehat_spam^[3] uploaded a demonstration of how the filter works while excited that they finally got a combination of items that they were happy with, earning over 500 likes in three weeks (shown below).
