About
Tempo House Renovation Edits or Me When I Get My Own House refers to a series of videos using several green-screen templates of a team renovating a house where an image appears on the walls and floors as the team paints and cleans. The templates are available on the "Tempo" music video maker app on Android and iOS and went viral starting in July 2022 in edits, often where an ironic meme image or an image of someone the poster stans is revealed as the workers renovate the house.
Origin
The house renovation templates, available on the Tempo app, were popularized on TikTok in July 2022. Some of the earliest videos using the template were posted to TikTok on July 16th, 2022. For example, on that date, TikToker[1] @jlvrrs posted a video where Steve Harrington from Stranger Things is revealed under the renovations, garnering over 1.1 million views in a month (shown below).

Spread
The trend spread over the following days as users set the template to new images of characters they stan. On July 17th, 2022, TikToker[2] @kent0swife posted a video where the renovators reveal images of Kento Nanami from Jujutsu Kaisen as they renovate, garnering over 2.1 million views in a month (shown below, left). On July 20th, TikToker[3] @ney.is.swag posted a version of the video using images of Brazillian soccer player Neymar, garnering over 2 million views in a month (shown below, right).

On July 22nd, a YouTuber[4] posted a video using the filter over a sped-up version of the Better Call Saul theme song beatboxed by Abdul Cisse where images of Saul Goodman are revealed on the green screen, garnering over 1.2 million views in a month (shown below). On August 21st, a Redditor posted to /r/MemeTemplatesOfficial[5] asking for the source of the meme, providing the Better Call Saul edit as an example, garnering over 3,500 upvotes in a day.
