On February 18th, 2026, while the "Japan Footsteps" copypasta was going viral, Instagram[1] user willfred.official posted a meme showing sped up footage of himself pacing a hallway under the caption, "Japanese people when they lowkey needa charge their phone," garnering over 847,000 likes in two weeks. The video directly references the copypasta and includes the copypasta in the description.
Spread
As the copypasta continued to spread in late February and early March 2026, the meme also spread. Many versions of the meme are elaborate video edits that begin with the meme, followed by a montage of clips.
On February 24th, 2026, TikToker[2] @deskind145 posted a video edit beginning with one of the memes, garnering over 1.7 million views in a week.

On March 1st, TikToker[3] @xyahsvr posted an edit following the format with Jujutsu Kaisen footage, garnering over 1.8 million views in four days.
A similar edit was posted by Instagram[4] user john.jo26 on March 2nd, gaining over 60,000 likes in three days.
