Pigcasso is a pig that paints. He uses a paintbrush in his mouth to draw on canvases and make art. He lives in South Africa and viral videos of him painting were first posted to YouTube in 2016. His online prescence spread to Instagram and TikTok where he became the subject of memes and wholesome, animal content.

Origin

On November 25th, 2016, the YouTube channel of Farm SanctuarySA posted a video titled, "HOG HERO," that led with text reading, "Meet Pigcasso." Over the course of six years, the video received roughly 58,500 views (shown below).

Spread

In 2017, local news outlets started to cover Pigcasso. For instance, on March 29th, 2017, the YouTube channel of On Demand News posted a video about Pigcasso and his owner's donations to charity. Over the course of five years, the video received roughly 123,000 views (shown below, left). On April 3rd, 2017, the YouTube channel Not Only Fashion Caffe' posted a more stylized video about Pigcasso, earning roughly 38,800 views in five years (shown below, right).

Pigcasso paintings also started to be featured on Instagram in late 2017.[1]

The aggressiveness of Pigcasso's head movements started to be highlighted in later videos. For instance, on December 16th, 2021, a time-lapse video of Pigcasso was posted to YouTube by the channel Caters Video, where over the course of four months, the video received roughly 16,700 views (shown below). Additionally, the painting that's painted in the video sold for £20,000.

On May 21st, 2021, a video of Pigcasso was shared by TikToker[2] pawsomepets who earned roughly 10,100 plays and 1,000 likes (shown below, left). On April 11th, 2022, TikToker[3] nookvore_ posted a video that received roughly 61,000 plays and 13,900 likes. They replaced the audio with a different song to make the video read more like a meme (shown below, right).
