About

Rabbit Hole Miku refers to a variant of the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku that portrays her wearing a black leotard and bunny ears while holding various casino props. This version of Miku was inspired by a song released by DECO*27 in May 2023 and was further popularized by a suggestive animation called "Pure Pure" created by YouTuber channelcaststation. Despite several Vocaloid fans criticizing "Rabbit Hole Miku" artists and creators for sexualizing a character they viewed to be 16 years old, this version of Miku garnered a notable fan following among people who perceive her as an adult, not unlike Brazilian Miku and Glorpi Miku.

Origin

On May 19th, 2023, YouTuber[1] DECO*27 posted a music video for their song "Rabbit Hole," made using vocals from the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku. The music video represents Miku in a bunny girl outfit adorned with playing cards, blending cute and subtly provocative imagery, while the lyrics portray a girl who follows her instincts, drawing a comparison to a rabbit.

The YouTube video gathered over 89 million views, 1 million likes and 21,700 comments in two years.

On February 17th, 2024, YouTuber[2] channelcaststation uploaded a short video using the song and presenting their own, sexually suggestive animation, showing Hatsune Miku bouncing while dressed in a bunny outfit. The video was titled, "Pure Pure" and gathered over 5.8 million plays, 477,000 likes and 5,500 comments in a year.

Spread

The fan animation created by channelcaststation became a popular video template for different virtual influencers and animators over the following months, as seen in a May 25th, 2024, YouTube[3] Short posted by user FARUCO that gathered over 3 million views and 300,000 likes in a year.

On March 4th, 2024, YouTuber[4] Guedo_Dark posted a stickman version of the Rabbit Hole animation, gathering over 4 million views and 250,000 likes in a year.

Several internet users reacted to some Hatsune Miku fans being uncomfortable with an older, sexualized interpretation of Hatsune Miku, prompting Redditors on the /r/Vocaloid subreddit to discuss the idea that Rabbit Hole and Pure Pure were inappropriate.

For instance, Redditor[5] /u/superloneautisticspy made a post to the /r/Vocaloid subreddit on March 29th, 2024, that discussed previous, more sexually explicit Vocaloid songs, questioning the reasons for some newer Miku fans' negative sections to Rabbit Hole.
