About

Reggie Vs. Iwata is a promotional video featuring Nintendo executives Reggie Fils-Aime and Satoru Iwata competing in a battle which was released during the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

Origin

At the beginning of Nintendo's event at E3 on June 10th, 2014, the company played a video featuring a battle between Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime and Nintendo of America CEO Satoru Iwata (shown below).

Spread

That day, the video game news blog Kotaku[1] highlighted the promotional video and Redditor BattleChimp submitted a YouTube upload to the /r/wiiu[2] subreddit. Also on June 10th, Viner Brian Crecente uploaded a video clip of Fils-Aime mimicking fighting moves from the ad (shown below).

Meanwhile, the video game news blog Polygon[4] published an article featuring several animated GIFs made from clips of the ad and YouTuber PotatoStep uploaded a dubstep remix version (shown below).

On June 11th, 2014, Tumblr user luna-sy[3] highlighted a GIF of the battle mashed up with clips from the Japanese animes Fist of the North Star and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, gathering upwards of 6,600 notes in the first 48 hours (shown below).
