Roy Padilla Crying MasterChef, also known as Roy Padilla Llorando or Kid Crying While Cooking On MasterChef Junior, refers to a 2017 viral video of Rogelio "Roy" Padilla crying while cooking a burger on México's MasterChef Junior Reality TV Show. People began using the clip as a reaction to various sad or ironically sad video clips in early February 2019 on Facebook and Twitter / X. Padilla's crying meme resurfaced in June 2025 after he made a special appearance on MasterChef Celebrity Mexico, with many claiming he had a "glow up."

Origin

On March 27th, 2017, X[1] user @taniacamposr_ posted the earliest found usage of Roy Padilla crying while cooking a burger on México's MasterChef Junior show. The user wrote in Spanish, "Roy es la cosa más hermosa del mundo, lo amo. Si lo descalifican me doy un balazo y demandó MasterChef," which translates to, "Roy is the most beautiful thing in the world, I love him. If they disqualify him, I'll shoot myself and sue MasterChef." The tweet received roughly 2 likes in eight years.

On April 20th, 2017, MasterChef's Mexico YouTube channel[2] posted Roy's crying meme in a compilation video (seen below), amassing more than 488,000 views and 4,200 likes in eight years.



Roy Padilla crying clip gained viral usage as an exploitable and reaction meme on Facebook, Twitter and TikTok over the following years.

For example, on February 10th, 2019, Facebook[4] page "El mismo video de Roy llorando pero con diferentes canciones" posted a version of Padilla's meme along with 1975's "Somebody Else" song. The video (seen below) received more than 1 million plays and 20,000 likes in six years.



On June 12th, 2021, Roy was interviewed by BuzzFeed[3] about his viral MasterChef Junior meme, which received more than 468,000 views and 19,000 likes in four years.



On June 8th, 2025, the Facebook[5] page @Sr.EstudianteOficial uploaded before and after images of Roy Padilla, eight years after the MasterChef Junior clip went viral. The post amassed over 1,700 likes and 113 comments in four days.

On June 9th, 2025, TikTok [6] user @anasxfff posted a video mocking Roy Padilla's special guest appearance on MasterChef Celebrity Mexico, amassing more than 2.1 million plays and 361,000 likes in three days.
