The Smoking In Bed Art Trend, also known as the Cigarette After Sex Art Trend, refers to a series of redraws on Twitter / X, among other sites, based on a drawing of two characters in bed, showing one smoking a cigarette and the other one looking shocked seemingly after having sex. Artists inserted their "OC" characters or other characters from TV, movies, anime and video games into the visual template. The trend started in November 2023. Overall, the image is similar to the Guy Tired After Sex photo.

Origin

On November 3rd, 2023, X^[1] user @Kupadraws posted a drawing of two characters in bed with one smoking a cigarette and the other lying down shocked, seemingly showing them after sex. @Kupadraws captioned the image, "i love when ppl draw ships like this actually." Over four weeks, the tweet received roughly 95,000 likes (shown below).

Spread

Soon after the tweet's upload, other artists on the app started to post redraws, such as X^[2] user @marsoids on November 3rd, who added Master Shake from Aqua Teen, gaining roughly 2,200 likes in four weeks (shown below, left). On November 4th, X^[3] user @ClaraDeArte shared a redraw that received roughly 56,000 likes in four weeks (shown below, right).

The redraws became increasingly viral going into November 2023, evident in a The Amazing Digital Circus iteration posted by X^[4] user @Toboki_05 on November 6th, 2023, gaining roughly 23,000 likes in a three weeks (shown below, left).

The trend also spread to other social media sites, such as a post shared by Tumblr^[5] user saiscribbles on November 13th, 2023, which gained over 790 notes in 17 days (shown below, right).

In late November 2023, redraws a part of the trend continued to surface on X.^[6][7]
