Snow-Covered Seal With Penis Drawn On Its Back, also known as Vandalized Seal, is a photoshopped image of a seal with a penis drawn in the snow on its back. The original photo shows a heart drawn in the snow on the seal and was uploaded to X / Twitter in March 2024, with the Photoshop edit going viral later that same month. The doctored image went viral across social media, inspiring memes, redraws and reactions, with some people believing it to be real.

Origin

On March 8th, 2024, X^[1] user @aguhiyori posted a video and image of a seal with a heart drawn on the snow on its back, writing what translates from Japanese to, "On a snowy day, a zookeeper gives Kyoro a heart on his back while he is playing in the passageway," garnering over 7,900 likes in two months (shown below, left).

On March 14th, X^[2] user @discountseal posted a photoshop of the seal transforming the heart on its back to a penis, garnering over 116,000 likes and 18,000 reposts in two months (shown below, right).

Spread

The seal inspired memes and reactions over the following weeks. On March 14th, 2024, X^[3] user @whoisrinkya posted, "who the fuck would do this are you serious look at his fucking face he obviously doesnt know," garnering over 273,000 likes in two months (shown below). On March 15th, the image was posted to the subreddit /r/wunkus,^[4] garnering over 4,400 upvotes in two months.

On March 16th, X^[5] user @x_ousiai posted a redraw of the image that gained over 27,000 likes in two months (shown below, left). On the same day, the original Photoshop edit was posted to /r/shitposting,^[6] garnering over 3,800 upvotes in the same span of time. Later that day, X^[7] user @_kaijukrew_ posted a redraw of Godzilla with the same drawing on his back, garnering over 37,000 likes in two months (shown below, right).

On March 17th, 2024, the photoshop was then posted by Tumblr^[8] user sealsdaily, titled, "Today’s Seal Is: Vandalized," garnering over 54,000 notes in two months. On the same day, the image was posted to /r/blursedimages,^[9] garnering over 3,500 upvotes in two months. On March 19th, a screenshot of the Tumblr post was posted to /r/tumblr,^[10] garnering over 17,000 upvotes in two months.

On March 21st, a screenshot of @whoisrinkya's reaction to the image was posted to /r/shitposting,^[11] garnering over 16,000 upvotes in two months. On March 23rd, X^[12] user @soresoar posted a 3D rendering of the seal, garnering over 51,000 likes in two months (shown below).
