About

Soft Irony refers to a genre of Hood Irony image macros that caption photos of cute animals like cats and dogs with AAVE and internet slang. Soft Irony memes commonly have a top white caption (made with the app Mematic) or use Instagram story fonts like Papyrus. Soft Irony is ultimately similar to Papyrus Irony which both include oddly skewed and cropped screenshots and filters like the Rio De Janeiro Filter that are over-included, similar to Deep Fried Memes. Soft Irony was started on Instagram and TikTok in 2023, associated with the rise of Pinkcore and underground rap groups like Shed Theory (Joeyy) and 1c34 (xaviersobased, Nettspend). Soft Irony was coined by meme creators bug2sick and slayworldalbania.
