Brookhaven is a Roblox roleplaying experience where you play as a resident of the town of Brookhaven. The experience, created in 2020, features a number of vehicles and homes for players to explore the town in. Brookhaven is one of the most popular experiences on Roblox with over 18.5 billion visits and 13 million favorites as of May 2022.

History

Brookhaven was created on April 21st, 2020.^[1] The game's description describes it as, "A place to hang out with like minded people and roleplay. Own and live in amazing houses, drive cool vehicles and explore the city. Be whoever you want to be in Brookhaven RP." In March 2022 Brookhaven was nominated for a Kids Choice Award^[2] for "Favorite Video Game," but lost to Minecraft.

Online Presence

Brookhaven roleplaying videos are popular on YouTube among the Roblox community. For example, in May 2021, YouTubers CookieSwirlC and Tad the Merchant uploaded videos taken in Brookhaven, gaining over 12 million views each in a year (shown below, left and right).

Criticism

Brookhaven is sometimes criticized for attracting online dating and essentially being a "hub" for online daters, or "ODers," according to some Roblox players. On June 26th, 2021, YouTuber vCherryl posted a video where she trolls ODers in Brookhaven, gaining over 1.5 million views in 11 months (shown below). It has also been criticized for lacking in features and being lazily made.^[3]

Hi, I'm Dory. Let's Go! refers to a TikTok sound and dance based on Baby Dory from Finding Dory. Started on Roblox in 2021 within Brookhaven, players approached others in the game to say, "Hi, I'm Dory. Let's Go!" inspiring a song made out of the practice. In 2022, TikTokers used the song in their videos, lip dubbing the lyrics and performing the emote in real life. Specifically, a young, blonde boy became the central figure in the trend.
