Overview

Class of '09 is a visual novel video game series and "rejection sim" developed by SBN3. The first game in the series, Class of '09, was released on PC in 2021 to overwhelmingly positive reviews, with fans praising its raunchy comedy and characters. A second game that offers a parallel story to the first was released in June 2023 to similar praise. The series garnered a significant fandom following its release, inspiring fan art, memes and other fan content throughout the 2020s. In October 2023, a Kickstarter campaign was started to raise funds for an anime pilot based on the games, Class of '09: The Anime earning over $44,000US with a goal of $35,000 by November.

History

On June 10th, 2021, Class of '09 was released on the Steam^[1] marketplace (full playthrough shown below). The game is described as a "rejection sim," with the description reading, "Instead of playing as some guy magically able to score with beautiful anime girls, YOU play the anime girl and create mass chaos in the lives of your potential 'suitors.'" The game was reviewed over 900 times in two years, gaining "overwhelmingly positive" reviews.

Class of '09: The Re-Up

On June 2nd, 2023, Class of '09: The Re-Up was released on Steam.^[2] The game takes players through an alternate storyline that runs parallel to the events of the first (full playthrough shown below).

Class of '09: The Anime

On October 23rd, 2023, YouTuber^[3] Wrath Club uploaded a trailer for a proposed anime pilot based on Class of '09, garnering over 896,000 views in a month (shown below). A Kickstarter^[4] page was opened to raise funds, surpassing its goal by the end of November.

On November 20th, 2023, YouTuber^[7] diefakepadparadscha posted a video titled "class of '09 IN context" compiling some of the funniest moments from the game, garnering over 113,000 views in nine days (shown below).

In November 2023, following the announcement of Class of '09: The Anime and the release of Re-Up, several pieces of artwork gained significant traction on X. For example, on November 23rd, X^[8] user @kaorukofan posted a piece of art that gained over 2,500 likes in a week (shown below, left). On November 29th, X^[9] user @juujjuli posted a piece of art that gained over 12,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
