Fears To Fathom is an episodic psychological horror indie game where each episode unveils a short story narrated by the ones who survived. The first episode was released in July 2021, prompting a fair amount of fans and streamers to share their playthroughs on social media. The Fourth chapter of the series, titled "Fears to Fathom – Ironbark Lookout," became a viral topic on social media, as people shared clips of the game on TikTok and Twitter / X.

History

On July 2nd, 2021, the first entry in the Fears to Fathom[1] series developed and published by Rayll was released on Steam for Microsoft Windows. The episode, titled "Fears to Fathom – Home Alone," is a freeware horror game in which you play as a 14-year-old boy who is home alone while his parents are out of town for work. A trailer was posted on the same day the game was released on YouTube[2] by the game creator @TheRayll, which amassed over 33,000 views and 611 likes in two years.

On September 19th, 2021, game creator Rayll announced the second episode of the game, titled "Fears to Fathom: Norwood Hitchhike." He released a trailer on YouTube[3] (shown below, left), amassing more than 31,000 views and 653 likes in two years. The episode was officially released on January 6th, 2022. On December 4th, 2022, the developer released a trailer[4] for the third installment of the game, titled "Fears To Fathom: Carson House," which received over 78,000 views and 1,900 likes in a year. The episode launched on January 9th, 2023. (shown below, right)

On October 20th, 2023, Rayll released the fourth episode of the game, titled "Fears to Fathom – Ironbark Lookout." A trailer was posted on YouTube[5] on September 22nd, 2023, receiving over 64,000 views and 2,900 likes in a month.

Online Reactions

Since the first episode was released in July 2021, the Fears to Fathom franchise has accumulated an expressive fanbase on the internet. For instance, days after the launch of the first episode, people started to upload reaction videos and gameplay of the game. On July 4th, 2021, YouTuber @AlphaBetaGamer[6] uploaded one of the earliest gameplay of the horror game (shown below, left), amassing roughly 433,000 views and 14,000 likes in two years. On August 5th, 2021, YouTuber[7] @TechnoGamerzOfficial uploaded a gameplay of the "Fears to Fathom – Home Alone" episode (shown below right), garnering over 21 million views and 828,000 likes in two years.

A clip from the fourth chapter of the series was shared on TikTok[8] by streamer @zachbeale (shown below), which amassed over 37 million plays and 4.6 million likes in a day.
