About

They Will Assimilate You is the nickname given to a 4-panel comic featuring two characters of a designated ethnicity, group or nationality being separated and reunited after one of them decides to move elsewhere. When the character who decided to move out returns (usually after a comically long period of time), he appears culturally and ethnically different, unlike his friend who stayed and warned him about being assimilated before he had left.

Origin

The original comic was made by the Facebook page Nomadic Nomad Memes[1], depicting a couple of Asiatic Turkic nomads, with the first saying "hey bro, I've decided to invade west", the second replying "u'll regret this, they will assimilate u" and the first assuring him with "I'll be perfectly fine,". The revenant returns as a Turk, saying "we wuz khanz" (in reference to the We Wuz Kangz meme), and surprised, his friends says "what the fuck" (shown below).

While the original post has been deleted, the comic was reposted and edited on many different sites. Its earliest repost[2] can be traced to September 19th, 2016, on Facebook by user Tengger Cavalry.

The comic was posted multiple times on Reddit, most notably on r/Turkey on January 18th, 2017, titled "Turkish history in nutshell"[3] and received over 90 upvotes in 4 years. On November 7th, 2019, the comic was posted by user avedji on r/arMEMEia, titled "türkiye very culture"[4] and received over 60 upvotes in 2 years. On September 13th, 2017, an edit featuring Sir Oswald Mosley as The Eternal Anglo was posted on the 4chan board /his/ [5] (shown below, left). On December 31th, 2018, a Spurdo Spärde edit was posted on /pol/ [6] (shown below, right).

On January 11th, 2019, a Virgin vs Chad version was posted on r/virginvschad titled "The Virgin repetition vs The Chad meme cross-over"[7] (shown below, left). The post received over 220 upvotes in 2 years. On April 7th, 2021, a Tiktaalik edit was posted on /his/[8] (shown below, right).
