This Dock Is Holding an April🍎 in Its Melt is an intentionally misspelled caption to a picture of a dog with an apple in its mouth. The tweet was popularized via memes on Twitter / X and TikTok in late 2023 and 2024, becoming an exploitable template and catchphrase online.

Origin

On November 15th, 2023, Twitter user @brokenbyrds^[1] tweeted an image of a dachshund with an apple in its mouth, writing, "This Dock Is Holding an April🍎 in Its Melt." The tweet gained over 6,300 retweets and 28,000 likes in seven months (shown below).

Precursor

The tweet was likely inspired by a November 21st, 2022, tweet by user @Twizzwald,^[2] which used a similar construction to write, "This dock is holding a Greg 🥚 on its Held" as the caption to a picture of a dog with an egg on its head. That tweet gained over 4,600 retweets and 12,000 likes in a year and a half (shown below).

Spread

Over the following months, the tweet inspired some exploitable variations and similar tweets. For example, on December 23rd, 2023, Twitter user @KIRBYSWARPSTAR^[4] posted Kirby fan art in the template, gaining over 30 retweets and 120 likes in six months (shown below, left).

On January 17th, 2024, Twitter user @ArcheopsEnjoyer^[3] posted a One Piece edit of the meme, gaining over 440 retweets and 2,900 likes in five months (shown below, right).

The tweet also found success on TikTok in 2024. On April 27th, TikToker funnytextohh^[5] posted a song featuring funny text message threads, starting with the "This Dock" tweet, gaining over 137,000 likes in two months (shown below, left).

The song notably inspired myriad videos. For example, on May 21st, 2024, TikToker underratedgrapejuice^[6] posted an animation for the song featuring Sonic the Hedgehog, gaining over 24,000 likes in one month (shown below, right).
