About
Whoa Mama Mia Cunt is a viral Tumblr post where one user comments "Whoa mama mia cunt" after another user calls them ignorant and curses them out in Italian for suggesting the Italians should have built Scaliger Castle on land. The post was made around January 2019 and later deleted, gaining viral spread through reposts. The catchphrase "whoa mama mia cunt" has since been referenced in numerous memes and posts, used as an ironic retort to shut down someone's opinion on a topic.
Origin
On January 10th, 2019, a now-deleted Redditor posted a Tumblr screenshot to /r/woooosh[1] showing a comment exchange between two users under a post sharing a photo of Scaliger Castle, an Italian fortress built in the water. The first commenter writes, "try building it on land next time you stupid Italians," followed by the response, "^ try to fuck off you ignorant bitch. non sai di merda neanche se ne mangi un secchio, diocane," the latter half translating to, "you don't know shit even if you eat a bucket of it." The original commenter responds, "Whoa mama mia cunt." The original post has since been deleted, but the repost to Reddit gained over 33,000 upvotes in three years (shown below).

On April 9th, 2019, Redditor -ItsMatty posted a photoshop of the post to /r/ShitPostCrusaders[2] depicting each user as a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure character, gaining over 9,000 upvotes in three years (shown below).
On January 14th, 2021, Tumblr[3] user logarto posted, "the phrase 'whoa mama mia cunt' ended the credibility of every italian online literally no way to argue against or come back from that," gaining over 18,600 notes in a year (shown below, left). On March 12th, Redditor Hummerous shared a screenshot to /r/CuratedTumblr[4] of an exchange on Tumblr (deleted) quoting the "mama mia" post, gaining over 1,000 upvotes in a year. On October 23rd, Tumblr[5] user death2america posted, "'oh mein gott; destroyed germany, 'woa mama mia cunt; destroyed italy, and 'naur; destroyed australia. who is next?" gaining over 100,000 notes in eight months and referencing the oh mein gott meme (shown below, right).
