Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook's parent company will be changing its name to Meta, and focus would begin to be focused on the Metaverse.

The Metaverse is the generic name for things that take place within computer-generated environments, such as creating an avatar that represents you and meeting with other avatars in a virtual classroom. This marks the beginning of an extreme shift, while Zuckerberg himself has been slowly making this transition over the past few years. The announcement brought a lot of memes as people began doing generic word and face swaps with the announcement image that was taken from the livestream.

While some people were busy trying to make memes using that format, others were making referential memes that played on the fact that the Facebook Company was changing its name at all. Compounding how funny the situation is, Facebook is currently finding itself in a new sticky tangle of troubles, including leaked documents detailing several issues in regards to misinformation and bias in rule enforcement.
