Chrono Series - Next Generation Preview

A preview of Chrono Trigger from next Generation magazine.

Note that even in a Western publication from 1995, the significance of the JRPG market in Japan was noted. Square's Final Fantasy VI had been released the previous year, and would sell over 2.5 million copies in Japan alone, and was a notable step up from even a few years earlier, when Final Fantasy IV failed to break 1.5 million sales in Japan. 1995 would not only see the release of Chrono Trigger, but also Romancing SaGa 3 and Dragon Quest VI, the latter of which was the third best-selling Super Famicom game of all time.

Also note how Akira Toriyama is already known as the "comic book" artist behind Dragon Ball Z. Note that although DBZ had been airing for years by the time this preview was made, there would not be an English dub of any DBZ episodes until months after this article was published.
