But Y'all Are Not Ready For That Conversation is a catchphrase and phrasal template often used in memes on Twitter to deliver an opinion or hot take. The phrase came into widespread use in 2019 and came to be associated with question opinions in subsequent years. In early 2023, the phrase became a copypasta used by people to deliver humorous ideas about the Pyramids of Egypt.
Origin
The use of the phrase "but y'all are not ready for that conversation" grew prominent on Twitter in 2018. The earliest known meme using the phrase was posted on December 8th, 2018, by Twitter[1] user @wristofer (seen below, left) The earliest known notable use of the phrase "but y'all are not ready for that conversation" is a December 29th, 2018, tweet by user @erosmua,[2] which gathered over 73,000 likes in four years (seen below, right).
Spread
Various viral tweets used the catchphrase in subsequent years, often to deliver a sincere opinion that could be considered controversial.[3][4][5]
On August 3rd, 2019, Twitter[6] user @desusnice posted a tweet that read, "white claw is a reference to the wolf-dog hybrids in the caucasus mountains that helped dr yacub’s creations survive but y’all not ready for that conversation," gathering over 5,000 likes in four years (seen below, left). On August 29th, 2019, Twitter[7] user @JadeLeilani posted a tweet that likened using the phrase "Y'all not read" to putting parsley in your meal for flavor, gathering over 4,000 likes in four years (seen below, right).
On September 3rd, 2019, Twitter[8] user @daveylitt posted a tweet that read, "This was ahead of its time, but y’all not ready for that conversation," gathering over 100,000 likes in four years (seen below).
