About

Carl Brutananadilewski is a main character from the show Aqua Teen Hunger Force and has been a very niche character in portraying a brash, skeezy, and otherwise crass character in terms of online meme usage. Within the context of the show, Carl is an adult entertainment and alcohol addict who spends most of his time trying to have clout above his level, making him very relatable to a large portion of the online demographic.

History

Appearing in the first episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Carl has been the neighborly foil and sometimes ally to the rest of the main cast, though often unwillingly being thrown into their adventures. His character design and attributes are to be incredibly hedonistic, fiercely loyal to his favorite sports teams, and overly protective of his personal property and how people view him. Out of all the main characters, he has the first lines of dialogue in the show. These first lines of dialogue were uploaded to YouTube[1] on February 21st, 2021, by the channel AreaEightyNine, gaining 4,000 views in 10 months (shown below).

Online Impact

Since his inception, Carl has been used in various memes and reaction images, often as a one-off reference to the character or having something said in his iconic accent or tone. Carl's most popular meme is Yo, Fryman! which started in 2010, and features Carl being Photoshopped into various other characters from other shows. An example of this features Carl depicted as Link from Legend of Zelda, as posted by the Funnyjunk user BILLYBAM[3] on December 2nd, 2010 (shown below).

These types of memes then evolved into Face Swap memes where Carl's face would be put onto the face of another character, without having to fully construct the entirety of Carl's figure. This can be seen in the tweet by @AveryDelta2[4] on April 2nd, 2020, in which Alucard from Castlevania has Carl's face, earning 210 likes in a year (shown below).

One of his most used reaction images also came from the 4chan board /a/[2], where it was used on October 27th, 2013, by an anonymous used (shown below).

An often used quote of Carl's is 'It Don't Matter, None Of This Matters' which comes from the seventeenth episode of season one, in which Carl gets a mail order bride. The scene where the quote comes from was uploaded to YouTube[5] by the channel itschriiis on June 27th, 2011, receiving 108,000 views in 10 years (shown below).

This quote has been used in a depressing sense since it's first utterance, but it's most popular usage was in a video depicting the elevator scene from Neon Genesis Evangelion in which the phrase takes on a new meaning as it is applied to the series as a whole. This video was re-uploaded to YouTube by the channel Ht The[6] on October 19th, 2020, earning 24k views in one year (shown below).
