About
The Chubby AI Filter is a CapCut filter that uses artificial intelligence to make a person in a photograph look overweight or obese. The filter was popularized on TikTok in March 2025 via a trend in which users show themselves through the filter and share their amusement over the results. The trend inspired controversy on social media as it garnered attention, with some calling it fatphobic or bullying. While the original filter was deleted as the trend went viral, copycats took their place, including one by TikToker @jyoung101capcut.
Origin
As early as March 15th, 2025, TikTokers began posting videos showing the results of running a photo through CapCut's "Chubby AI filter," which edits the photo to make the subject look overweight. The filter shows the original photo transition into a chubby version of the photo. One of the earliest examples of the trend was posted by TikToker[1] @demi_jane1 that day, garnering over 12.4 million views in three days.
