Overview

Victoria's Secret Nightmare Roommate and Poopgate refer to controversy stemming from a viral video in which TikToker Taylor Paré (@paretay) claims she used to live with a popular Victoria's Secret model who would steal from the other roommates and keep her used tampons and dirty tissues, including feces stained tissues, in a suitcase in the apartment. The video was posted in mid-January 2024 and inspired TikTokers to search for the nameless model in question.

Background

On January 14th, 2024, TikToker[1] @paretay posted a video captioned "Victoria's Secret Nightmare Roommate" in which she tells a story about a Victoria's Secret model she used to live with 10 years ago. She claims that the model, who she does not name, was close with big names in the modeling industry like Naomi Campbell and liked to one-up her roommates' stories with what she alleges were fake stories about her own life. She claims that she and the other roommates noticed things going missing from the apartment, like clothes and prescription pills. The roommates suspected it was the nameless roommate stealing things, evidenced by the roommate being seen wearing one of Pare's shirts.

During a Harper’s Bazaar Icons party, Pare and the other roommates went through the roommate's things. They found numerous stolen items and a suitcase filled with used tampons and tissues covered in feces. Pare ends the video by explaining that the model is still working, is famous and is beloved by TikTokers and claiming she has a photo of the suitcase full of tissues. The video gained over 9.6 million views in a week (shown below).

Developments

The video inspired viewers to search for the model who Pare was talking about, deeming the controversial story "poopgate." On January 16th, Pare posted a video to TikTok[2] telling viewers it was not model Taylor Hill, as some suspected, also discouraging viewers from harassing people online, but saying she'll give clues in her future storytime videos, garnering over 1.4 million views in a week (shown below, left).

Later that night she posted another video to TikTok[3] offering more information about the woman, claiming she "didn't do laundry once" during her time living in the apartment, which was about three or four months, also claiming she'd put the dirty clothes in the suitcase with the used tissues. She claims the model stole her and her roommates' dirty underwear. She then shares the photographs of the suitcase (shown below, right). The video gained over 500,000 views in a week.

Some viewers began to suspect that the culprit was the model Devon Windsor. Later that day, Windsor posted a video to TikTok[4] denying that she was behind poopgate, offering evidence to back her up, claiming she lived alone in an apartment at that time, garnering over 300,000 views in a week (shown below). On January 17th, Pare also denied it being Windsor.[5]

That day, Pare posted a video to TikTok[6] discussing how the New York Post covered the story and dismissing further theories about poopgate, garnering over 880,000 views in six days. She also apologizes to models who have been accused of being the poopgate culprit but says most of them find it funny (shown below, left). On January 18th, she posted what she claimed was the "final" update on poopgate to TikTok,[7] denying accusations that she made it up.
