"Fashion" Meme refers to an animation meme trend set to the 2007 song "Fashion" by Lady Gaga where artists animate characters, either OC or from a pre-established media properties, in various outfits into a stylized compilation, often with an animated representation of the character in the bottom corner. The trend was created by YouTuber MeowChirp in February 2016 and saw consistent use over the following years.

Origin

The original video that began the trend was posted by YouTuber[1] MeowChirp on February 20th, 2016 and features a compilation of Gacha characters in various outifts, but has since been deleted. It has been reuploaded to YouTube several times since (shown below).

Spread

On April 10th, 2017, YouTuber[2] by ZodiacCloud posted a video inspired by MeowChirp's using a representation of herself in various outfits, gaining over 300,000 views in five years (shown below).

On April 5th, 2018, YouTuber[3] sir fluff posted a version of the meme featuring furry characters, gaining over 2.2 million views in four years (shown below, left). On May 10th, 2019, YouTuber[4] Ijustwannahavefun posted a version featuring characters from creepypastas wearing different outfits, including Ben Drowned, gaining over 12.3 million views in three years (shown below, right).

On December 25th, 2020, YouTuber[5] WolfyTheWitch posted a version of the trend using representations of Minecraft YouTubers, gaining over 3.9 million views in just over a year (shown below). On February 25th, 2021, the same YouTuber[6] posted a sequel to the video, gaining over 2.3 million views in a year.
