G.I. Robot "Oh Boy, Nazis" refers to a series of anti-Nazi memes using the DC Comics character G.I. Robot known for its purpose of killing Nazis and the quote, "Oh boy, Nazis." The quote is from the Max animated series Creature Commandos, voiced by American actor Sean Gunn. Anti-Nazi G.I. Robot memes spread en masse in late 2024 and early 2025, coinciding with a perceived rise in alt-right and neo-nazi voices online. Notably, many of the G.I. Robot memes were in reaction to Elon Musk doing what appeared to be a Sieg Heil salute at the second inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump in January 2025. Reddit and TikTok became major hubs for the trend. Many of the edits on TikTok used the song "Coin-Operated Boy" by The Dresden Dolls.

Origin

The first-known meme to use G.I. Robot as an anti-Nazi symbol was shared by Redditor^[3] AipomSilver00 on December 5th, 2024, using a Speech Bubbling format to show the character reading a Reddit comment that read, "I hate Wolfenstein because it doesn't allow me to shoot more Nazis." The post received over 230 upvotes in two months (shown below).

Oh Boy, Nazis

On December 12th, 2024, season 1, episode 3 of Creature Commandos titled, "Cheers to the Tin Man," was released on Max.^[1] In one scene, G.I. Robot and Sam Fitzgibbon join a room of people attending a lecture that is later revealed to be a Nazi speech. G.I. Robot, known for killing Nazis, says, "Oh boy, Nazis." On December 12th, YouTuber^[2] Guilherme M posted the scene, gaining over 345,800 views in two months (shown below).

The scene was first used in a meme by TikToker^[4] @saminyourmom on December 24th, who made a G.I. Robot edit that centered on the quote, also using the song "Coin-Operated Boy" by The Dresden Dolls.^[5] Over two months, the video received roughly 531,500 likes (shown below).

Spread

On December 26th, 2024, X^[6] user @GalanMcCree posted fan art featuring G.I. Robot asking, "Are you a Nazi?" gaining over 73,000 likes in a month (shown below).

Some users against the spread of the G.I. Robot meme made fun of it, usually calling it cringe through meme signifiers. For instance, on January 13th, 2025, X^[7] user @J135931 turned the abovementioned image into a Redditor Soyjak wearing a Soyjak Award reading, "Reddit's favorite robot." The meme received over 110 likes in a month (shown below).

On January 21st, TikToker^[8] @.swatcho posted an "Oh Boy, Nazis" edit showing G.I. Robot reacting to Elon Musk doing the controversial salute at Donald Trump's second inauguration, receiving over 993,600 likes in 15 days (shown below).

Also on January 21st, 2025, TikToker^[9] @jadecadencehail posted an original animation, showing G.I. Robot reacting to Musk's salute on his phone in the original "Oh Boy, Nazis" scene. The video amassed over 390,100 likes in 15 days (shown below).

Anti-Nazi fan art with G.I. Robot surfaced on TikTok in photo slideshows in the following weeks.

For instance, on January 27th, 2025, TikToker^[10] @p0rcus66 posted an image showing G.I. Robot pointing a gun with text reading, "I don't argue with people G.I. Robot would've shot," receiving over 16,900 likes in nine days (shown below).
