Guys Holding Babies, usually captioned You Got 48 Hours to Respond, refers to a social media trend involving fathers posting photographs, usually selfies, of themselves holding their babies, often in one hand with the child vertical. The trend went viral on X / Twitter in March 2024 following a photograph posted by rapper DDG, while a photograph by user @_KC20 spawned redraws and memes.
Origin
On March 7th, 2024, American rapper DDG posted two selfies of himself holding his son Halo in one hand, with the post garnering over 5,200 reposts and 70,000 likes on X[1] / Twitter in four days (shown below).
On March 8th, 2024, X[2] user @_KC20 quoted the post with a selfie of himself holding his baby in one hand, tagging DDG and writing, "you got 48 Hours to respond 😂." The post received over 12,000 reposts and quotes and 87,000 likes in three days (shown below).
Spread
The posts were followed by more fathers responding with photographs of themselves holding their babies, usually captioned with some version of "you got 48 hours to respond." For example, a post by user @NotPremi on March 8th, 2024, received over 8,700 reposts and 84,000 likes on X[3] in three days (shown below, left).
On March 9th, user @nakrance posted a photograph that received over 11,000 reposts and 81,000 likes on X[4] in two days (shown below, right).
The photograph shared by @_KC20 was used as a reference for redraws over the following days. For example, on March 8th, 2024, X[5] user @M1das_OW2 edited @_KC20 and his child as Zoro and Chopper from One Piece, gaining over 330 reposts and 5,100 likes in three days (shown below, left).
