His Name Gort refers to a series of memes showing a fake Wikipedia page titled "His name" over an image of a plush isopod, a description underneath reading, "Crimes: Several counts of murder." The exploitable meme was posted to Twitter in March 2021 and gained viral spread shortly after, inspiring variations over the following months where the image is replaced with another character.
On March 15th, 2021, Twitter user @wikiooc, an account that makes fake Wikipedia pages, posted a fake page titled "His name" showing an image of an isopod plushie. The description under the image reads, "Crimes: Several counts of murder." The post gained over 176,000 likes and 24,000 retweets in a year (shown below).
The meme gained viral spread shortly after March 15th, 2021. That day it was posted, it was reposted to Reddit's /r/skamtebord and /r/Bossfight, as well as on Instagram by inhalemybees, gaining over 5,100 upvotes, 8,500 upvotes and 18,000 likes, respectively, on each platform. On April 16th, Instagram user ducksbeingdumb posted a photoshop of the meme replacing the plush with a duck, gaining over 2,600 likes in a year (shown below, left). On June 13th, Twitter user @capybara_man posted a version of the meme replacing the image with a capybara, gaining over 5,900 likes and 800 retweets in a year (shown below, right).
On June 24th, 2021, Instagram page monkey.posting shared a version of the meme, gaining over 14,900 likes in a year (shown below, left). On November 9th, Redditor wheresmychippy93 posted another version with a capybara to /r/capybaras, gaining over 860 upvotes in seven months (shown below, right). It was reposted to Instagram page mememonk_ on November 11th, gaining over 20,000 likes in a similar timeframe.
