About

The Jellyfish Arms Jail Video, also known as the Arm Jellification Video or the Brazilian Jellyfied Arm Trick, refers to a viral gore video showing a male prisoner's arms being dismembered from his body through the bars of his jail cell. The video leaked on Reddit in January 2024, spreading to Twitter / X soon after. The video originally spread on LiveLeak as early as 2017, allegedly from a Brazilian prison.

Origin

On June 17th, 2017, LiveLeak[1] user Intensified Beef Products posted a video titled "The Old Fashioned Brazilian 'Jellyfied' Arm Trick" that showed a male prisoner (purportedly in a Brazilian prison) being tortured. The man's arms are dismembered from his body using a rope, causing a resemblance to a jellyfish's tentacles. The LiveLeak[1] video gained over 124,000 views in four years prior to the site's shutdown in 2021.

Spread

On September 20th, 2022, YouTuber [2] Disturbed Reality posted a video called "The Horrors Of South American Prisons" that outlined three stories, including what he called the "Jellyfish Arms" video. Starting at the 5-minute mark (shown below), the YouTuber details the video. Over two years, it received roughly 235,300 views.

Starting on January 5th, 2024, the so-called "Jellyfish Arms Jail Video" was posted on Reddit[3][4] to since-banned subreddits mostly consisting of throwaway accounts. On January 6th, the video was posted to the website watchpeopledie.tv on the /h/gore[5] board by user MyNamesJihad, gaining over 3,300 pageviews in five days (screenshot shown below).
