Ken Starr's Impeachment Hat refers to the black cowboy hat worn by one of President Donald Trump's lawyers during the impeachment trial of the president. The hat became the subject of mockery online.
Origin
On January 27th, 2020, Twitter [1] user @damuelsohn tweeted a photograph of Starr wearing the black hat and the caption, "Ken Starr entering the Senate just now." The tweet received more than 755 likes and 155 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).
Spread
Throughout the day, people mocked images of Starr wearing the hat. For example, Twitter[2] user @SirajAHashmi tweeted, "1940's narrator: 'Ken Starr came in on the night train to the big adios. The tension in the Capitol was palpable. He could taste it. It's not often that you get a second chance. For Ken, this was it. In this game, there's the case that makes you and the case that breaks you.'" The tweet received more than 355 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, left).
