Lava Hound, When It Dies, Guards refers to a Clash Royale challenge set by TikToker @amichelo where players were tasked with finding a combination of three or less cards that can be summoned to get an enemy tower as close to zero HP as possible without killing it. The winning combination, which lowered the tower to one HP, was summoning the Lava Hound troops then Guards when the troop died. The phrase "lava hound when it dies guards" became a spam comment on TikTok in March 2022, often commented on unrelated videos without context.

Origin

On January 20th, 2022, TikToker @amichelo posted a video challenging Clash Royale players to get an enemy tower as close to zero HP as possible using three cards or less (shown below).

On January 23rd, 2022, TikToker^[1] @amichelo posted a video responding to a comment by @itzjustin_2 suggesting he use "lavahounds and when it dies place guards" to achieve the challenge. In the video he does exactly that and the troops manage to get the enemy player's right-most tower down to one HP before the guards are killed (shown below). The video gained over 780,000 views in two months.

On March 7th, TikToker^[2] @timbabruh posted a video testing the strategy where he says the phrase "lava hounds, when it dies, guards," at the beginning, gaining over 44,000 views in two weeks (shown below). The player manages to defeat one of their enemy's towers using the strategy. The majority of the 700+ comments on the video read "lava hounds when it dies guards."

The phrase "lava hound when it dies guards" spread across TikTok over the course of March as a spam comment, most often written in comment sections of unrelated videos without context. It also inspired videos where players challenge themselves to summon Lava Hound and then guards when it dies to get an enemy tower to one HP without killing it (examples shown below). For the challenge to work, players must wait until the Lava Hound and lava pups, which appear from the hound's dead body, are both dead, then summon the Guards.
