About
Meg Riding Noise Machine or Meg Riding Noise Bike refers to a reaction image and GIF featuring Meg Griffin from the American animated sitcom Family Guy riding an imaginary vehicle, or "sound machine," adorned with various instruments and noise-making objects. The contraption resembles a mostly red-and-yellow bicycle with a large tuba or horn and several whistles or pipes protruding from the top.
The image gained virality on social media platforms like TikTok and pop-music-oriented online spaces, such as Stan Twitter and music-centric subreddits like /r/popheadcirclejerk, in the mid-2020s, and is typically used to mock or comment on music that is considered "unlistenable" or otherwise strange and obtrusive, especially if it's perceived as noisy. In memes, the bike essentially represents the origin of the music or subject.
Origin
The image of Meg riding the sound machine was originally[1] derived from the fourth episode of Family Guy's twelfth season, titled "A Fistful of Meg," which aired on November 10th, 2013. In the sequence, Stewie imagines Meg riding a Dr. Seuss-inspired vehicle called the "Menstrual Cycle," a reference to an earlier gag.
It's unknown when the image was first used as a meme, but an early viral example was posted by X[7] / Twitter user @oomfpit on September 21st, 2025, in a tweet captioned, "CLANG CLANG CLANG WENT THE TROLLEY." The post garnered over 473,700 views and 29,000 likes in eight months.
The image began to see use as a reaction image in response to music that is deemed challenging, unconventional or generally unlistenable to a broader audience sometime around late 2025.
For example, the image is frequently seen in comment sections for videos that utilize the song "Pluto" by avant-garde electronic musician Björk.
On November 15th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @centaur_26 uploaded a video using "Pluto" for the Addison Rae dancing meme, which received about 821,000 views and 47,000 likes in about a year and a half.

One of the top comments in the thread, which comes from January 31st, 2026, accurately reflects the image's typical use in reference to music. Other examples of the image in the thread date as far back as early December 2025.
Spread
The Meg Riding Noise Machine meme continued to spread as a reaction image for noisy or chaotic music over the following months into early 2026.
The Noise Machine reaction image is also frequently commented under videos showcasing bad Beyoncé instrumentals.
On May 19th, 2025, TikTok[3] user @jaredjoshua23 posted the instrumental to Destiny Child's song "Independent Woman Pt. 2," which received over 1.3 million views and 178,700 likes in about a year.

Once again, the Meg Riding Noise Machine reaction image was a prevalent comment under the video, with examples ranging from mid-January 2026 to April 2026.
A similar reaction image and GIF of Meg wearing a large contraption of instruments from the show, including drums, trumpets and cymbals, also saw usage online in early 2026, with the still image being uploaded to Giphy[5] on February 20th, 2026, garnering nearly 60 million views in three months.
The format was additionally used in simple text-caption memes unrelated to music, such as an example posted on February 22nd by Instagram[6] user @builtbyjosh444, making a joke about buying a shoddy car on Facebook Marketplace. The meme received over 11,400 likes in three months.
