About

Toon Makers Sailor Moon, also referred to as Saban Sailor Moon, was the pilot episode of a plan to westernize the Sailor Moon anime. The pilot episode was made by Toon Makers and Renaissance-Atlantic, and used different characters, a western animation style mixed with live action footage, and a much different storyline compared to the anime. The plan was ultimately scrapped for a dub of the actual anime series by DiC Entertainment. The pilot episode was considered lost media until its rediscovery in August of 2022.

Anime Expo 1995

In late June/early July of 1995, the opening to the pilot episode was shown at Anime Expo 1995 by Allen Hastings (shown below). The event was held at Los Angeles Airport Hilton.

An unknown attendee recorded the opening using a camcorder, and the recording was later reuploaded online. It eventually found its way onto video sharing sites such as YouTube in the mid-2000's (example shown below).
