About

The Painting Is Complete, also known as Everyone Pointing, is a photoshop that adds multiple figures from memes who are pointing to Michelangelo's painting The Creation of Adam from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The figures' pointing fingers form a circle around the empty space at the center of the image. The photo became an exploitable following its creation in 2020 where additional characters were edited in mimicking the original painting.

Origin

The image combines several figures from pre-existing memes. Starting clockwise from the far left, the image includes the blonde woman from Woman Yelling At A Cat, Angry Man Pointing At Hand, Pointing Grim Reaper Statue, Skeletor, the lower-right version of Spider-Man Pointing At Spider-Man, Pointing Rick Dalton and Paul Teutul Sr. from the final panel of American Chopper Argument.

The image was originally created by Reddit user Lasitha Sandeepa (u/lasithasanz) and uploaded to /r/memes[1] on August 20th, 2020.[2] The post received over 120,000 upvotes before being removed from the subreddit.

Less than an hour after he uploaded the initial artwork, Sandeepa uploaded a version of the meme featuring the default Reddit upvote button at the center to /r/dankmemes.[3] The post (below) received over 31,000 upvotes in six months.
