About
Why Do You Like This Game So Much? refers to an exploitable meme template showing a text message of someone sending a picture of a game, asking, "Why do you love this game so much?" which is replied with "I'm glad you asked" and a six-hour voice message. Spawned by a viral tweet about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the format first achieved virality on X / Twitter in mid-July 2024 as users edited different video games into the image.
Origin
On July 19th, 2024, X[1] user @SlLENTPRINCESS posted a screenshot of a text conversation in which a friend sent an image of the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild asking, "why do you like this game so much?" SlLENTPRINCESS then responded with, "I'm glad you asked" followed by a six-hour voice message to explain why they love the game. The post (seen below) received more than 7,500 likes and 1,400 reposts in five days.
Spread
The screenshot of the text conversation became a viral exploitable meme on X and Reddit over the next few days, in which people replaced the game featured in the message for other popular franchises.
For example, on July 22nd, 2024, X[2] user @LadyRanni posted a version of the meme with the Elden Ring (shown below, left), amassing more than 28,000 likes and 4,400 reposts in two days. On July 21st, Redditor[3] BowserPlayer posted a version of the image featuring the Hello Charlotte indie game (seen below, right), which received roughly 100 upvotes and 10 comments in three days.
