Blue Drum Murder refers to the murder of 29-year-old Meerut resident Saurabh Rajput in India, whose body was chopped up into 15 pieces and sealed in a blue drum with cement. Allegedly committed by Rajput's wife and her lover, the murder case inspired memes among Indian users online in which the appearance of a blue drum signaled imminent danger for husbands and men in general.

Origin

On March 22nd, 2025, Hindustan Times^[1] reported on the murder of 29-year-old navy officer Saurabt Rajput in Meerut, India, whose body was found dismembered into 15 pieces and sealed in a blue drum filled with cement. The police arrested Rajput's wife, 27-year-old Muskan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla, the prime suspects in Rajput's murder.

According to initial reports, Rastogi and Shukla laced Rajput's food with a sedative and stabbed him while he was asleep. The suspects dismembered Rajput's body and sealed the pieces in a blue drum, which they planned to move out. Rajput and Rastogi's landlord called the police after growing suspicious of Rajput's disappearance and noticing a foul odor coming from the drum.

On March 25th, the YouTube^[2] channel SR PAY posted a video about the case, which garnered over 3 million views in one week (shown below).

The case went viral on Indian social media in late March and early April 2025, with multiple posts about it appearing on Facebook, X and other social media platforms.

The viral spread of the news was followed by memes referencing the case, especially memes in which blue drums or barrels signaled danger for husbands and boyfriends in particular.

On April 1st, 2025, Redditor Spezthecockgobbler posted an inquiry about a meme referencing the case in the /r/ExplainTheJoke^[4] subreddit, where it gained over 3,400 upvotes in two days (shown below).
