Chibi Dawn, also referred to as Baby Dawn and Smol Dawn, refers to a series of memes about a Chibi style of playable character Dawn and other characters in the 2021 video games Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl. Following the release of the trailer for the games in late February 2021, Chibi Dawn gained popularity as the subject of memes and fan art.

Origin

On February 26th, 2021, the official trailer for upcoming 2021 Nintendo video games Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, remakes of 2006 video games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, premiered.^[1] The trailer revealed that characters on the world map have Chibi-style models, with playable character Dawn making an appearance in the trailer (shown below).

Within minutes of the trailer's release, users on social media started making posts and memes about the Chibi art style. On that day, Twitter^[2] user @UltimaShadowX posted the earliest found meme about Chibi Dawn, captioning a cropped still frame of Dawn from the trailer "Fuck it, going babey mode." The post (shown below) received over 6,600 retweets and 38,400 likes in three days.

On February 26th, 2021, many users on Twitter posted fan art and memes about Chibi Dawn. For example, that day Twitter^[3] user @MartinWDoodles posted a Hello Yoshi From Super Mario meme that received over 4,000 retweets and 15,100 likes in three days (shown below, left). Later that day, Twitter^[4] user @hamachamu0404 posted fan art of Chibi Dawn and Pokémon Legends Dawn that gained over 28,300 retweets and 139,400 likes in three days (shown below, right).

Memes about Chibi Dawn and the Chibi style of characters in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl maintained notable popularity on social media, primarily on Twitter, in late February 2021.
