On January 10th, 2024, TikTok[1] user @jackandjordan.mp4 posted a video titled "dogs when u film them" in which a man pretends to be a dog acting awkward as his owner is recording him in the living room (shown below). The post amassed over 32 million plays and 5.9 million likes in a week.

Hours after the video was uploaded, dog owners started to post TikTok duets showing their pets' reaction to being filmed, which looked very similar to the comedy skit created by @jackandjordan.mp4[2]. For instance, on January 10th, 2024, TikTok user @doyouevershutup dueted the viral video with their dog's reaction (shown below, left), which amassed over 3.4 million plays and 461,000 likes in a week.
On January 12th, TikTok[3] user @monika_loopez posted a video showing her dog awkwardly staring at her while being filmed (shown below, right), which received roughly 1.4 million plays and 174,000 likes in a week.
