Grindr Screenshots refers to a series of screenshot conversations from the LGBTQ+ dating app Grindr, often shared on social media for humorous purposes. The funny and awkward interactions have been used as content ever since 2011 on Tumblr, gaining several meme pages on Instagram, and Twitter / X over the years dedicated to sharing the dating conversations.

Origin

Grindr is a mobile dating and social networking application launched in 2009 that serves as a matchmaker for LGBTQ+ users within close proximity. One of the earliest found screenshots shared for humorous purposes was uploaded on the Douchebags of Grindr^[1] blog on July 3rd 2011. The post titled "SELF-LOATHING ARAB DOUCHE" (shown below) features the profile of a man on the app that says "Don't be gay," which amassed more than 90 reactions and 20 comments in 12 years.

In August 2011, the Tumblr^[2] blog grindrlulz, which posts screenshots of gross or weird conversations on Grindr, launched. A similar Grindr screenshot Tumblr,^[3] grindrstories, was launched in June 2012.

As the dating app became more popular, more bizarre conversations were shared on social media. For instance, on October 23rd, 2019, Reddit^[4] user /u/FiqoTorres shared the story of an X page dedicated to straight men humor who posted a Grindr screenshot chat and assumed it was between straight and cisgender people. The post (shown below, left) amassed more than 717 upvotes and 12 comments in four years. On November 25th, 2018, X^[5] user @emobandtshirt shared an interaction he had on Grindr with the pilot who flew him. The post (shown below, right) amassed over 180,000 likes and 24,000 retweets in five years.

On December 18th, 2018, X^[6] user @alexmdws shared a screenshot of a Grindr interaction in which a person sent a voice message pretending it was a pre-recorded voicemail. The post (shown below) amassed over 18,000 likes and 4,400 retweets in five years.
