It's Time to Drink Water refers to an ad for a mobile water reminder app that repeats the phrase "It's time to drink water" in a text-to-speech voice. The advertisement was first posted to YouTube in September 2021 and was posted to TikTok in October of that year, becoming a popular original sound a year later between August and October 2022.

Origin

On August 19th, 2019, YouTuber[1] YipYapYoshi uploaded what appears to be a mobile app ad for a water drinking reminder that repeats in a text-to-speech voice, "It's time to drink water," garnering over 10,000 views in three years. On September 1st, 2021, YouTuber[2] Whitechair reuploaded a similar ad, originally posted by now-deleted TikToker @rodneyholmes300, where a similar voice says the same phrase as a water icon moves toward a character repeatedly, showing them losing weight and turning blue, garnering over 1,200 views in a year. On October 31st, TikToker[3] @its.time.todrinkwater posted the video, garnering over 180,000 views in a year (shown below).

The original sound for @its.time.todrinkwater's video saw a surge in popularity in August 2022. On August 25th, 2022, TikToker[4] @waabyuu posted a video recreating the ad with VTuber waabyuu, garnering over 930,000 views in just over two months (shown below, left). On August 30th, TikToker[5] @moriain2011 posted a video where they pour water on an iPad image of a person saying the phrase, garnering over 700,000 views in a similar span of time (shown below, right).

On October 27th, TikToker[6] @au6reys posted a video of a plush doll of Aubrey from Omori frozen in ice to the sound, garnering over 214,000 views in six days (shown below). It was reposted to Instagram[7] by cloakermccloakerson On November 2nd, garnering over 300 likes in under a day.
