Lisa Simpson Crying Through a Hoodie is a reaction image macro featuring a screenshot of the cartoon character Lisa Simpson from the American animated comedy The Simpsons crying into a hoodie that covers her face entirely, and tears seep through the fabric. Online, people have used the image to express feelings of high emotion.

Origin

On January 10th, 2016, Fox aired the Simpsons episode "Teenage Mutant Milk-Caused Hurdles" in the United States.[1] In the episode, Lisa (voiced by Yeardley Smith) tightens a hoodie so that it envelops her face and says, "Mom, the inside of this hoodie is covered in tears" (clip below).

Three years later, on March 1st, 2019, Twitter [2] user @alexisclairefit shared the images of Lisa putting on the hoodie and the tears seeping through the fabric. They captioned the picture, "Anyone: I’m proud of you." The post received more than 179,000 likes and 71,000 retweets in less than 13 months (shown below, left).

Roughly two months later, Twitter[3] user @alteanbugaboo tweeted a variation with quotes from the film Avengers: Endgame. The tweet received more than 9,800 likes and 2,600 retweets in less than one year (shown below, center).

On March 30th, 2020, Redditor [4] theuchihagod posted a version in which the image reacts to the joke "Your surname is the job your ancestors did / The Simpsons," indicating that they are calling the family simps. The post received more than 18,000 points (96% upvoted) and 150 comments in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
