Look At Ye. Postin' Cringe. refers to an image macro and reaction image showing actor Willem Dafoe from The Lighthouse wearing a raincoat and standing in front of a window, captioned, "Look at ye. Postin' cringe." The first known upload of the meme was posted to Facebook in October 2021, with an earlier version using a different image posted to iFunny in June 2020.

Origin

On June 30th, 2020, iFunny[1] user Scrungo_Beepis_2018 posted a meme using a screenshot from Robert Eggers' 2019 film The Lighthouse showing Willem Dafoe's character looking remorse at a table, captioned, "Bad luck to post cringe," gaining over 30 smiles in two years (shown below).



On October 12th, 2021, the Facebook[2] page I Stepped In MEME posted an image macro taking a scene from showing Willem Dafoe standing in front of a window, captioned, "Look at ye. Postin' cringe." The post gained over 80 shares and 100 reactions in seven months (shown below).

Spread

The meme received viral spread across social media. On October 14th, 2021, it was posted to Tumblr[3] by user toxicblonde, gaining over 31,000 notes in seven months. On the same day, Instagram[4] user sunofmaat93 posted a blue tinted version of the meme, gaining over 200 likes in the same span of time. On October 15th, Instagram[5] user fakethomasligotti posted a caption changed version of the meme, gaining over 300 likes in seven months (shown below, left). On January 18th, Instagram[6] user samsarateens posted another version of the meme, gaining over 2,400 likes in four months (shown below, right). On February 1st, the meme was used as a reaction image by Twitter[7] user @AsiaSemone in response to a Brie Larson tweet, gaining over 750 likes in three months.
