Mr. Bean Cheating refers to a scene from the Mr. Bean television in which Mr. Bean (portrayed by Rowan Atkinson) begins an exam, then tries to cheat by looking his classmate's test. It has been used as an object labeling exploitable to comment on instances where franchises, brands, etc. appear to copy each other, similar to the Can I Copy Your Homework? meme.

Origin

On January 1st, 1990, the first episode and season of Mr. Bean television series premiered. In the episode, Mr. Bean takes a mathematics exam. While the exam begins, Mr. Bean tries to cheat by looking at his classmate's test in various ways. On August 25th, 2009, Mr. Bean YouTube[1] official channel uploaded the clip. The video received more than 6.5 million views in 12 years (shown below).

Spread

In the 2010s, the scene was used in object labeling memes depicting various franchises, characters, brands, etc. trying to copy each other. For example on December 3rd, 2018, deleted Reddit[4] user uploaded an example to /r/formula1. The post received more than 4,000 points in three years (shown below, left). On May 14th, 2021, Reddit[2] user kashir009 uploaded the image depicting Coulomb as Mr. Bean trying to copy Newton's formula to /r/sciencememes subreddit. The post received more than 1,400 pointss in five months (shown below, right).

The format also saw popularity outside of Reddit. For example, on November 20th, 2018, an unknown 9GAG[5] user uploaded an example comparing Koenigsegg and McLaren. The post received more than 1,600 upvotes in three years (shown below, left). On September 16th, 2021, Facebook[3] user Whyou uploaded an image accusing Jujutsu Kaisen of copying Fire Force characters to "Shounenposting S3" group. The post received more than 2,300 reactions and 88 shares (shown below, right).
