Origin

On June 18th, 2008, Swedish YouTuber^[1] bosse66 shared a video of himself smoking and enjoying a cigarette. He's an old, bald, white man wearing a blue plaid dress shirt. The video received over 426,000 views and 19,000 likes in 17 years. At the video's 0:49-minute mark (shown below), bosse66 pauses with his eyes closed and slightly shifts his head back into a more upright position to shake his head "No."

On December 3rd, 2019, Tenor^[2] user PetterArnqvistEriksson shared a GIF of the abovementioned clip called, "Mmm Good GIF" (shown below).

Spread

The GIF first gained use on Tumblr, notably starting in 2023. For instance, an early example was shared by Tumblr^[4] user ridemonologue on June 29th, 2023, captioned, "Another day of being a retarded smart person," gaining over 3,400 notes in two years (shown below).

More iterations surfaced on Tumblr^[3][5] later in 2023, continuing into 2024.

On October 1st, 2024, X^[6] user @cybermrcury tweeted the GIF, captioning it, "I wanted us to laugh forever," gaining over 20,000 likes in seven months (shown below).

Others on X used the GIF in the following days, like X^[7] user @romagoesinsane on October 2nd, who captioned it, "184k likes on a selfie and I still need to go to work," gaining over 325,000 likes in seven months (shown below).
