Scott Pilgrim "Move Yo Body" or Nega Scott Dance refers to a series of memes in which characters are animated dancing by thrusting their hips like Nega Scott in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game while "Move Yo Body" by Bryansanon plays. The meme was popularized on TikTok in December 2023 and continued to spread in January 2024 as users animated characters from various fandoms doing the dance.

Origin

On December 19th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @yuripookiewookie posted a video of the Nega Scott character from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game thrusting to "Move Yo Body" by Bryansanon, captioned, "when my friend turns around for one second," garnering over 2.1 million views in a month (shown below).

The video of Nega Scott thrusting became the subject of edits over the following days. For example, on December 20th, YouTuber^[2] Elsie posted an edit that gained over 70,000 views in a month. On the same day, TikToker^[3] @connorrrvsp posted an edit that gained over 300,000 views in a month (shown below, left). On December 21st, TikToker^[4] @tawnyton posted an edit where Scott thrusting transitions to Rayman thrusting, garnering over 837,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

Spread

The meme continued to spread throughout December 2023 and January 2024, inspiring both edits of the original clip and reanimations depicting other characters doing the dance. On December 24th, 2023, YouTuber^[5] Mhaze3 posted a video of the dance, garnering over 300,000 views in two weeks. On December 27th, TikToker^[6] @qwassfjs posted an animation that gained over 500,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, left). On December 28th, TikToker^[7] @sweetyfoxie posted a similar animation, garnering over 1.2 million views in two weeks (shown below, right).

In January 2024, the meme became increasingly popular on X and YouTube. On January 7th, 2024, X^[8] user @soxxeonfire posted an animation that gained over 400 likes in five days and YouTuber^[9] lol posted an animation that gained over 145,000 views in the same span of time (shown below).
