Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game is a 2010 beat 'em up video game originally released by Ubisoft for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, loosely based on the graphic novels of the same name. The game was made unavailable for purchase in December 2014. In January 2021, a remaster titled Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – Complete Edition was released for multiple gaming platforms.
History
On August 10th, 2010, Ubisoft Montreal released[1] side-scrolling beat 'em up video game Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game for PlayStation 3 console, with an Xbox 360 version released on August 25th the same year. The game allowed up to four players to team up as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Kim Pine and Stephen Stills to battle through seven levels and defeat Ramona's seven evil exes.
Two DLC packs for the game were released in 2010 and 2013, with the second DLC enabling online multiplayer. On December 30th, 2014, the game was delisted from the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.
On September 10th, 2020, Ubisoft[2] announced Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – Complete Edition, a remaster of the original game including both DLC packs' contents. The remaster is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows and Stadia during the 2020 winter holiday season. On January 14th, 2021, the remastered version of the game was released.[6]
Gameplay
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game features beat 'em up gameplay, with up to four players able to play simultaneously on the same screen. Each of the four main and three unlockable characters has a unique moveset and is able to utilize certain weapons.
Reception
The original release of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game received positive reviews from critics and the audiences, with the PlayStation 3 version of the game maintaining a 77 average critic score and 7.8 user score on Metacritic.[3] The Xbox 360 version received 73 average critic score and 7.6 user score.[4]

The announcement of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – Complete Edition was followed by viral discussions of the game on Twitter, with multiple users posting memes about and based on the game. For example, on September 10th, 2020, Twitter[5] user @UltimaShadowX posted an Emo Peter Parker Dance, Romeo Cannady Dance, Chika Dance and Spoons Rattling meme that received over 152,000 views, 6,400 retweets and 19,800 likes in one day (shown below).

The release of the game was followed by "Scott Pilgrim" trending on Twitter on January 14th, 2020,[11] with users posting memes and fan art.[7][8] A number of viral posts[9][10] highlighted the alternate box cover art that referenced the 1998 video game Sonic Adventure (shown below).
