Small Monkey In John Deere Overalls, also known as Baby Monkey In John Deere Overalls or Small Monkey John D., is an image macro of a small monkey wearing John Deere brand overalls with a hazy, green border surrounding it. The image first surfaced in 2012 on YouTube and later spread to Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter where it became the subject of single-topic blogs and gimmick accounts, as well as becoming part of the lore surrounding Milk Ape and Jungle Thick.
Origin
The exact origin of the small monkey wearing John Deere overalls is currently unknown, however, it was first used online within a September 29th, 2012, YouTube video uploaded by YouTuber palautech. The video was titled, "small monkey john deere," and over the course of 10 years, it received roughly 21,600 views (shown below, left). YouTuber palautech posted another video on the same day, earning over 2,000 views in the same time period (shown below, right).
Spread
On October 7th, 2013, CollegeHumor added the monkey as a picture to its website, however, the website has since been deleted. Evidence of the link can be viewed in a tweet[1] from a CollegeHumor spam account. A few months later, on March 11th, 2014, YouTuber Mo Ped posted a video of the monkey, gaining over 2,000 views in eight years (shown below, left). Also on March 11th, 2014, the single-topic Facebook[2] page Small Monkey John Deere Fan Club uploaded its first post. On March 26th, 2014, YouTuber Jinpayne posted a video titled, "Small Monkey John Deere's last words before ascending to another life [MEMORIAL VIDEO]," gaining roughly 4,200 likes in eight years (shown below, right).
On December 7th, 2014, Tumblr[3] user tamama666 posted the photo, earning roughly 61,100 notes in eight years (shown below). Tamama666's post is currently the highest-definition photo of the monkey.
In 2019, a Twitter gimmick account was dedicated to the small, John Deere monkey known as SMJD[4] and was associated with the lore surrounding Milk Ape and Jungle Thick. In February 2019, the account was deleted, evident in a tweet that attached a sentimental memorial video from Twitter[5] user ohIettie on February 28th, 2019, gaining over 300 likes in three years (shown below).

On April 11th, 2019, a new Twitter[6] account called small monkey john d. with the handle @smallmonkyjdee started uploading similar content, claiming to be the owner of the previous account. On April 7th, 2019, the Twitter[7] account earned roughly 1,500 likes for a meme that combined the monkey with the weed blunt from the ¿Quieres? meme (shown below).
In 2022, small monkey john d. on Twitter gained more engagement, causing a resurgence in the photo's virality. For instance, on September 24th, 2022, the Twitter[7] account captioned the photo "okay i pull up," gaining roughly 27,100 likes in four days (shown below, left). On September 27th, 2022, the Twitter[8] account inserted the monkey into a Snoop Dogg template, gaining roughly 6,300 likes in one day (shown below, right).
