About

"Sonic Says" was originally the ending segment from the cartoon, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog by DiC, and broadcast in syndication in 1993. These segments taught viewers important lessons.

On August 13th, 2004, YTMND user AndyAML created the first "Sonic Says" YTMND. The audio is from the episode "Lovesick Sonic". In the clip, Sonic teaches about viewers about how being touched "in a place or in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable" is "no good.” Today this is still the most viewed instance of "Sonic Sez" on YTMND with over 213,000 hits.

The Lawsuit
On January 11th, 2007, YTMND posted a notice that they had been issued some sort of legal documents from SEGA calling for the end of the Sonic Says meme, but the link to the document is no longer valid.

One possibility is that SEGA issued a Cease and Desist notice for copyright violation, but the Sonic YTMNDs were found to be fair use as parodies; but this is pure speculation. The meme has since outgrown YTMND, and can be found as a Youtube Poop.
